How We Work
Who writes The Daily Tourist, how guides are checked before they go up, how AI tools are used, where the photos come from, and how to report a mistake.
The Daily Tourist is a travel guide to US and Canadian towns, Houston and Dallas restaurants, and cities in Japan, South Korea and Taiwan. New and rewritten pages carry the byline “The Daily Tourist editors”.
Older guides and rewritten ones
The site began in 2020 as a personal travel blog by its original author, Nishino, and the guides from that period still carry that byline. Some of the places in them may have closed or changed since.
We're rewriting the guides readers use most. A rewritten page opens with a note giving the month it was rewritten and carries the editors' byline instead of the original author's.
How a place gets on a page
Before a rewritten guide goes up, each place in it is checked on its own website or on a city, state or national park page. If we can't confirm a place is still operating, it's cut. Opening hours, prices and season dates appear only with a link to the page they came from.
No place is described as visited by our editors.
Writing tools
Drafts are prepared with the help of AI writing software. A draft goes up only after its places and facts have been checked on those websites.
Photos
Photos of towns and cities from Wikimedia Commons are used under free licenses and credited under each photo and on the photo credits page.
Found a mistake?
Send the page address and what's wrong to [email protected]. We'll check it against the place's own website and correct the page.
